On June 8, 2023, Eniola Tikare attended a World Ocean Day event organized by the Center for Gender Economic Africa (CGE) on behalf of TIP. The event’s theme was “Steering Gender to the Center of Nigeria’s Ocean Economy,” its purpose was to identify gaps in gender inclusion in the ocean economy, explore partnership opportunities, promote international collaboration, and gather data on women’s involvement in sea-related activities. The event also discussed the challenges women face in the maritime industry, especially regarding gender inequality, with industry leaders sharing their experiences. CGE is partnering with the Africa Center for Energy Policy to work on a project focused on the maritime economy. The project aims to create a coalition of stakeholders already working on solutions for various sectors, such as renewable energy, oil and gas, maritime activities, biotechnology, and tourism, to promote gender equality.
