TIP Celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child in Lagos and Imo State

To mark this year’s International Day of the Girl Child with the theme: The Time is Now – Our Right, Our Future, TIP created awareness on girls’ rights to education and other fundamental rights issues in Lagos and Imo states.

In Lagos, Bridget Andrew, TIP’s legal officer, and volunteers, spent the day with female students at Debby and Ruby College, Lagos. They educated the girls on their fundamental human rights and extensively discussed issues raised by the girls to understand their rights and sexual and gender-based violence. They ended the day by encouraging the girls to focus on academics to attend their full potential.

In Imo, TIP held a street sensitization with the women and men of Nwaorieubi, Mbaitoli local government area in Imo State, on the importance of girl child education as a fundamental human right.

TIP will continue to create awareness about girls’ access to basic education and to ensure their rights are not violated. The time is now for girls to understand their rights, speak up, and access justice and support at every level.
