TIP Discusses Girls’ Education with Community Leaders in Imo State

With support from Malala Fund, TIP continues to create community partnerships and support girls’ basic education in Imo and Kano State.

In Imo State, TIP paid an advocacy visit to the women leaders of Achi Mbieri community in Mbieri Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State to discuss the importance of basic education for girls and the roles of mothers as crucial players. TIP’s team and volunteers addressed women leaders during their annual August meeting on the barriers facing girls’ education in the state and the need to set up a forum to provide information and space to discuss solutions freely. The women leader of the community concluded the discussion by thanking TIP and pledging their support for the initiative.

Additionally, TIP within the month also met with a broad range of community leaders of Achi Mbieri community at the Igwe palace in Mbieri to brainstorm the modalities for a joint school-community effort to ensure that girls efficiently and safely attend school. The Igwe of the community welcomed the group, and after an extensive presentation on the Community Rights Education Watchdog Committee (CRWC) model, they agreed to nominate members to serve on the Committee. The CRWC will involve the community leader’s full participation in ensuring quality access to basic education for young girls under the age of 12 in the community.
